A decent chunk of the people walking around Siesta Key in late December aren't locals — they're people who looked at a forecast back home and a forecast here, and picked the one without a coat in it. There's no snow, no fireplace, nothing that looks like a Christmas card. What you get instead is a beach that's still genuinely warm, a couple of real local events, and a very different kind of holiday than whatever you're used to.
The weather is the actual selling point
December here runs mild, not cold — daytime highs typically sit in the low-to-mid 70s°F, with overnight lows dropping into the upper 50s. The Gulf itself cools down too, hovering in the high 60s°F, which is still swimmable for anyone who isn't precious about water temperature, just not the bathwater-warm Gulf you'd get in August. Rain is rare this time of year compared to summer, and the air loses most of that thick, sticky humidity that defines a Sarasota July. It's a genuinely comfortable stretch to be outside all day, which is most of the appeal for anyone flying in from somewhere actually cold.
It's not really "off-season" here anymore
If you've read our best times to visit guide, you already know high season on Siesta Key runs December through April, not just January onward. That means the first half of December sits right at the edge of it — noticeably quieter than February or March, but already busier than the empty-beach stretch of summer. The main lot won't be the free-for-all it is in July, but it also won't be the 10:30 a.m. scramble you'd hit in peak season. Worth timing your arrival the same way we cover in that guide either way.
Light Up Siesta Key and Village Holiday Parade
This is the actual local event, not something borrowed from Sarasota proper. It's an annual holiday parade that runs right through Siesta Key Village and along Beach Road, with the whole stretch decorated for the evening. Last year's edition (the 37th) landed on a Saturday in late November, starting around 5:30 p.m. and running into the evening.
If you want the bigger spectacle: the boat parade
This one isn't technically a Siesta Key event — it happens over on Sarasota Bay, around Bayfront Park and Marina Jack, a short drive off the island. Decorated boats cruise the bay after dark, judged in a couple of categories, with the whole thing raising donations for local kids' charities along the way. We're mentioning it here the same way we mentioned the circus history or the Legacy Trail — not technically "Siesta Key," but close enough, and worth knowing about if you're already in the area for the holidays. Same as above: exact 2026 date wasn't posted yet when we wrote this, so check before you plan a night around it.
Practical stuff for a December visit
- Hurricane season officially ends November 30, so by the time Christmas rolls around, that risk is off the table for the year.

None of this is a reason to expect a white Christmas, obviously. But if what you actually want is warm sand under your feet on December 25th instead of a shovel in your hand, this is a pretty reasonable way to spend the holiday.
