There are two ways onto Siesta Key by car — the Siesta Drive bridge to the north and the Stickney Point Road bridge to the south — and picking the wrong one at the wrong time can add a real chunk of time to your trip. Neither is "the good one" across the board; it depends on where you're coming from and what time of day it is.
Siesta Drive (the north bridge)
This is the more direct route if you're coming from downtown Sarasota or from the north side of town. It feeds more or less straight toward the main Siesta Key Beach entrance, which makes it the obvious choice for most first-time visitors heading to the main beach.
Stickney Point Road (the south bridge)
Better if you're coming from the south — I-75, Venice, or anywhere south of the city. It also connects more directly to the south end of the island, so it's the natural choice if you're headed to Turtle Beach or the Jim Neville Preserve for kayaking rather than the main beach.
If you picked wrong
Doubling back to the other bridge mid-trip rarely saves time once you're already stuck — the island's internal roads aren't built for a quick cross-island shortcut. It's more effective to just plan which bridge you'll use before you leave than to try to switch once traffic's already bad.
